Martha Skou & Louise Foo

FORMAT NO. 1 I forbindelse med udstillingen vil Foo og Skou udgive Format NO 1. De har deltaget i gruppe-shows i New York på prominente undergrundssteder såsom Silent Barn og Death By Audio, hvor de deltog i Death By Audios sidste show “Death By Art”. Kunstbloggen “Artlovers New York” kaldte Foo og Skous installation Sound of NYC skyline “a magic, even romantic yet hardcore black and white graphic soundscape ” Foo og Skou har fået tildelt et seks måneders fellowship på New York Art Residency og Studio Foundation.

//FORMAT: by Martha Skou and Louise Foo The show gives insight into an ongoing process about designing for the possible near future, in which technology and physical spaces interact more and more. The outcome is a series of physical works / objects that function as the interface for a smart device application that translates visual information to a series of sonic pitches. The spatial installations are open scores made to provide the viewer with the opportunity to intuitively interact and have a personal and transformative experience. The image-to-sound-translation algorithm used in the application as well as the imagery that has inspired the organization of objects are built around a time vs. frequency, or time vs. pitch order. This is the way in which humans most often have mapped out sound in the past. How will it be in the future? FORMAT NO. 1 In addition to the exhibition Foo and Skou will release the first edition of Format. Format is a mixed media publication that will explore, release and suggest new formats. Title: Format NO. 1 Description: limited edition lithography prints with iPhone application (edition of 30) The iPhone application used in the exhibition and released with Format NO. 1 is developed in collaboration with programmer Johann Diedrick. The lithography Prints for Format NO. 1 are printed by Anton Peitersen. BIOGRAPHY In Louise Foo and Martha Skou’s collaborative practice, they share the urge to explore and better understand the physics and systems of sound. They wish to communicate the magic of transformations through the creation of experiences. FORMAT is the duo’s first solo-show in their hometown Copenhagen. They have participated in group-shows in New York at prominent underground venues such as Silent Barn and Death By Audio, where they participated in Death By Audios closing down show “Death By Art”. The Art Blog “Artlovers New York “ called their installation “Sound of NYC skyline” “a magic, even romantic yet hardcore black and white graphic soundscape” Foo and Skou have been granted a 6 months full fellowship at New York Art residency And Studio Foundation, and have been invited to do a residency at Pioneer Works – An Art and Innovation Center in Brooklyn. Foo has has studied at Funen Art Academy followed by at master in creative use of new media technologies from York University.
