Udstillingsperiode: 2. marts – 30. marts 2024

Om The Kinship Programme 2024:

REMEDIATION. Avant la lettre (2010-24)

Opening and publication reception: Friday March 1st 2-8 pm
Exhibition period: March 2nd – March 30th
Opening hours: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 2-5 PM

With REMEDIATION. Avant la lettre (2010-24), Jonas Georg Christensen has created a site-specific installation. This exhibition design seeks to – in interaction with photo- and text- artist’s books – unfold a processual exhibition, as and through an experimental format.

The exhibition features work by Jonas Georg Christensen, gathered from the last fourteen years, as well as three new art publications – released in connection with the opening:

– Project Context

the catalogue for REMEDIATION. Avant la lettre (2010-24) with contributions from Jørn Erslev Andersen, Jonas Georg Christensen, Maria Finn, Lars Bang Larsen, and Anne Munnecke. Edited by Jonas Georg Christensen

– BATTERI

by Jonas Georg Christensen

– Transcription of the Assistens Cemetery’s outer wall, pointing towards Nørrebrogade – September, 2007

by Jonas Georg Christensen

The three artist books are published via Udg. Txt – in English, Edition Txt – the imprint that Christensen is the publishing editor of, and which in turn functions as an active part of his artistic practice.

The idea of the exhibition is to turn the c4 project space inside out, to experiment with the exhibition as both a format and a process in itself. The site-specific approach, a relational thinking, and all the processual aspects of this will thus – in line with Jonas Georg Christensen’s interventionist practice – extend into the duration and the time of the exhibition. This is done so as to search for new conversations, other connections, and yet unknown aspects of the exhibited work.

The exhibition is kindly supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, the Augustinus Foundation, the Beckett Foundation, the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen Foundation, and the Municipality of Copenhagen’s Council for the Visual Arts.

About The Kinship Programme 2024

The exhibition is the second in c4 projects’ exhibition program for 2024: The Kinship Programme; a series of exhibitions exploring the theme of community. Here, we have invited the participating artists to reflect on the structural, political, poetic, material, and critical potentials of the notions of communality and community.

This stems from a broader idea concerning the internal and external ecology of exhibition spaces, where the quality of creating connections between people, time, and matter helps foster new relevant conversations about society and sustainability.

Remediation. Avant la lettre (2010-24) is also part of a smaller exhibition series within the Kinship program  curated by Anne Munnecke – that we have called REVISITED. Here, we have invited three artists, all of whom have previously worked with and in c4 projects, as participants in group exhibitions. Exploring the idea that collaborations doesn’t need to start from a ‘ground zero’, Jonas Georg Christensen is therefore invited back, as the first in the series, to unfold his work and revisit themes from his own practice.

About Jonas Georg Christensen

Christensen is educated from DFK, DJK, and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Department of Theory and Communication. His practice spans writing, the production of artist’s books, photography, and teaching – including art history and theories of the arts.

Christensen’s practice is ‘interventionist’ and investigative; he, for example, examines the premises and possibilities of artistic research as knowledge production, in relation to the prevailing order and our perceptions of knowledge as a positive X instead of a negative X.

Christensen also functions as the publishing editor for Udg. Txt – in English, Edition Txt: Via this platform, artist books and theoretical texts are published. Primarily with a focus on investigations concerning the role and functions of photography in contemporary culture.

He has received grants from the Danish Arts Foundation, the Academy Council, and was most recently awarded the Sven Dalsgaard’s Funds grant, in 2023.
