Stine Ofelia Kildevang

Copenhagen, November 4, 2013

An exhibition at c4 Projects by artist Stine Ofelia Kildevang in cooperation with musician Jirasol Pereia Ayala and cand. mag./writer Ida Sofie Minke Anderson. Through photography, installation, sound and text the exhibition raises a series of questions concerning the relationships people form. Furthermore it deals with the questions of identity and gender, and how the physical environment and social structures affect us.
c4 Projects is located in the street Dybbølsgade at Vesterbro, and the surrounding area is still partly characterized by brothels. By virtue of its geographical location the gallery is part of a larger urban context, in which the city and the local area plays a role in the way we identify ourselves, and how we interact with the reality we live in.
On this basis, the exhibition focuses on the individual ́s identity and the way we generally relate to concepts such as gender, openness, relationships and existing structures in society. The different parts of the exhibition serve as a mime of the surrounding space, a kind of identification with the surroundings – while it can never be more than an illusory image. The exhibition at c4 Projects is Stine Ofelia Kildevang ́s first in a Danish gallery.
Stine Ofelia is educated in Sweden and a large part of her career has taken place in that country; an example is her participation in the New Nordic Photography at Hasselblad Center in 2010. She has a master of Fine Arts from Malmö Art Academy and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Copenhagen. With Open – Why gender matters as (n)ever before she takes a step into the Danish art scene. She does so by questioning the local definitions of gender and art in this interdisciplinary exhibition in Copenhagen.

StineOfeliaKildevang
